Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 cup sourdough starter (active)

  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/4 cup melted butter

  • 1/2 cup warm milk

  • 1 large egg

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 1/2 tsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

  • 1/4 cup softened butter

  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter

  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup

Directions

  • Prepare the Dough: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. In another bowl, mix sourdough starter, warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, kneading until smooth. Place the dough in a warm spot to rise for about an hour.
  • Make the Filling: Mix brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter in a bowl. On a floured surface, roll the dough into a rectangular shape. Spread the cinnamon mixture evenly over the dough, then roll it up tightly. Slice into 12 equal pieces.
  • Prepare the Caramel Sauce: In a small saucepan, melt butter and brown sugar over medium heat. Stir in corn syrup and cook until smooth. Pour the sauce into the bottom of a greased baking pan.
  • Assemble and Bake: Place the dough slices on top of the caramel sauce. Cover and allow it to rise again for an additional 30 minutes.. Let cool slightly before serving.
